Joey Cheek is coming to the IRC!

Olympic Gold Medalist Joey Cheek will be spending October 4 and 5 at the IRC learning about homelessness in Greensboro.  Four years ago Joey, who is known for his humanitarianism as much as for his speed on ice, helped the community raise over $400,000 for Operation Greensboro Cares–an effort that provided seed money for the IRC.

While he’s at the IRC Joey will get a chance to learn about homelessness first-hand from the people who are living it every day–several IRC guests have volunteered to act as tour guides around the IRC and around the city. While he’s in Greensboro Joey will also be encouraging people to connect with the IRC and to the people we serve through digital media (NB if you’re reading this and aren’t following us on Facebook and Twitter, use the buttons on the right!).  Last year Joey founded DailyHouse, a new media venture that gives insider coverage to the sports not usually found in mainstream sports news.

More news of Joey’s visit will be posted soon, but be sure to save time on Friday, October 5 between 6:00 and 9:00 to come by the IRC to meet Joey Cheek and hear what he has learned during his two days .
